2002 Whidbey Island Mudder

One Speed Promotions is pleased to bring you the 2002 Whidbey Island Mudder… Join us for our third year of fun on May 26, 2002 (new date!). New for this year is the Downhill Bike XC race. Ride your Big Squish rig on the XC course! We'll throw in several jumps/drops just for you guys!! See the criteria below! And as always, feel free to bring your single-speeds...if we get enough, there will be a separate prize list!

Criteria for DH-XC race
There will be two categories: (Race A) a 130mm or under travel catagory, including freeride hard tails, and short travel dually's, and (Race B) an over 130mm (the bigger the better!) catagory for long travel dually's only. Race A hardtails must have a minimum of 100mm of travel. You're not allowed a granny gear (but can have as many chainrings as you like!) ALL BIKES MUST HAVE 2.2 or larger tires. According to our freeride freind Josh, "Hard core's will ride full face helmets and pads!" The DH-XC will be on a modified, 3 mile course with some special stunts and jumps tossed in! For the DH-XC catagories, there will be $75-$50-$25 gift certificates from Unreal Cycles for the top 3!

NEW! Bling Bling!
In addition, there will be some other great prizes. Our sponsors have donated over $1800 in merchandise prizes, and as always there will be some cash for the Experts. There will also be a prize raffle taking place throughout the day!

The Course!

We were going to keep the course the same as last year, but we found some more trails! It's now about 5.5 miles (with the potential to grow slightly longer by raceday!), and features a hills and fast descents, and some sections of singletrack! If it's warm and dry, the course can get dusty, but if it's wet, watch out for mud! The DH-XC course will a about 3 miles per lap, and will feature some jumps and other stunts.

Driving Directions

Map to the course. Thanks to Yahoo!Maps.

From the Clinton/Mukilteo Ferry (South End of Whidbey Island): Travel through 3 stoplights on SR 525 (about 4 miles). After the third stoplight, at Maxwelton road, you will see signs posted. From the North: Take SR 20 south onto Whidbey Island. Drive through Oak Harbor and Coupeville. A few miles south of Coupeville, SR 20 becomes SR 525, which will take you though the stoplight in Freeland. About 5.5 miles after Freeland you’ll see some signs, telling you to turn left onto Coles Rd. The course is on your left in about 1/4 of a mile. Keystone/Port Townsend Ferry info.
